I'm a comics, literature and media scholar and adjunct writing faculty at Antioch
University and Shoreline Community College.
In my research, I am primarily interested in non-fiction narratives of personal and
political oppression. I study the ways art and literature, especially comics, promote better
understanding and combat suffering. In my teaching, I help students learn to research and
read critically and give them tools to engage others through their writing. In both my
research and teaching, my focus is on how meaning is produced, how knowledge is
constructed and how experience is shared.
An East Coast transplant, I've called Seattle home for a decade (minus the
glorious year I spent teaching university in the South of France).
